We have a profitable alternative to offer the buyer of traps for ventures far from the US coastline. In the past the problem of expensive freight to ship bulky traps was solved by purchasing oval traps that nested neatly as laundry baskets for international shipment. Great for shipment, not so great for fishing. Money saved on freight is soon lost to inferior catches on the grounds. We know of no port where the ovals are seriously fished if conventional rigid gear is available. They just don't work nearly as well. We tried one more time with the ovals in the fall of 2000. We sent the ovals out with the top captains in our area, the traps all came back "thanks but no thanks."
The alternative is simple. Buy the better trap. We send you complete traps in a container. We've done it for years, with both private companies and national government agencies.
