Since the late 70's we have been designing and fabricating kits, trays and racks for growers. We purchase materials by the trailer-load to keep costs low. This is what we do at Ketcham's, it's not just a sideline to make a few extra bucks. We have shearing and assembly departments to mill your mesh and get you the best pricing in the industry.
A New Wire Mesh is coming just for Growers
The mesh used by you folks doing the growing was made for other purposes. The three inch square wire is made for the earth stabilization business, the open mesh provides a good water flow but at about three square feet to the pound it's light for you, even on the edge of being too wimpy. The one and a half inch lobster pot wire strong enough for you at about two square feet to the pound. Your problem with the lobster mesh is the smaller opening foul over quickly on starving your animals. We spent a good deal of time this past summer visiting your sites and talking with growers in different states about what would be better for our industry.
What came out of these meetings is purpose built wire mesh just you, the growers. We expect to have a four and one half inch square mesh in hand before the end of the year. It will be welded utilizing the heaviest rod stock you've ever seen in our business, and our new wire mesh will be galvanized, epoxy primed, and vinyl coated to marine standards. The target weight is two square feet to the pound, but using the large diameter steel stock this mesh will be more rigid than the trap wire out there now. If you are considering building cages this winter you may want to hold off until you see the new Aqua-Marine Shellfish Mesh.

Ketcham's is sourcing out new domestic manufacturers of the snaps and the "safety pin" sealers we use. There have been cheepo imported snaps around that have just been a corrosion disaster.
