Grow-out cage liquidation
Ketcham's has acquired hundreds of grow-out cages from a defunct oyster operation. They are 36" deep and 42" wide and can hold up to 12 bags of oysters. Many never in the water. They are priced below material cost starting at $ 56. each depending on configuration or if you'll need additional fabrication. We couldn't build them for less than a hundred bucks. On the left are two photos of a custom designed six chamber grow-out frame. It has three shelves 6" high and divided to an 18" width. The entire front is hinged and swings away for easy access to the inserted plastic mesh bags. Overall cage dimensions of 36"x36"x18" high plus triple bottom standoffs to keep your animals clear of bottom predation. The three 36"x1 3/4" bottom skids, to keep the mesh from settling into a soft bottom, are a recycled plastic material attached with stainless ring nails. The frame material is a vinyl coated galvanized OceanMesh® fastened with marine grade aluminum clamps. Ketcham's has been building deployment ready cages for over twenty years. The on grant photos are a cage a design similar to the lower photo. The mesh size is chosen to match the size of the animals being cultured. Legs to keep the cage away from bottom predators and internal baffles to prevent "bunching" are common choices. Many growers who have taken the time to "do the math" have learned it can be more cost efficient to receive deployment ready cages and focus grow-out, rather than wasting time attempting to do it all themselves |
